The British songwriter, singer, musician and producer Clive Gregson is best known when he formed a folk-rock duo with singer Christine Collister. Gregson's dry, humorous lyrics about love, performed by Collister's powerful and full voice, proved to be a hit with a mainstream audience. Besides making music in the bands Any Trouble and the Richard Thompson Band, Gregson has also released solo albums
… on which he does everything himself: music, lyrics, vocals, all instruments and even the production. Gregsons was often asked after performances if his CDs sounded like his live shows. That can finally be said of the acoustic album Long Story Short. Besides a trip to the piano, harmonica and banjo, Gregson mainly accompanies himself on the guitar. All attention now turns to Gregson's heartwarming, sensitive voice and his flawless, subtle guitar playing. As we are used to from Gregson, the folky, jazzy and bluesy ballads contain the ingredients humor, beautiful melodies and elegance. Long Story Short is an intimate and relaxed listening album with the romance of a crackling fireplace. (SvdP)more
