Mullärit is an instrumental and vocal ensemble from the Russian republic of Karelia, which borders directly on Finland. They arrange traditional songs and also write their own melodies. They get their material from folk music collections or directly from folk singers. They play Karelian songs from the regions around the White Sea, Aunus and Ladoga and Russian songs from the regions around Lake
… Onega and the shores of the White Sea. Their repertoire also includes songs in the dialect of Ingria, the region around St. Petersburg. The result is a folk-country-like whole, laced with humor, zest for life and sentimentality. The band has been around for five years and has already performed in Spain, Germany, USA, Norway and Finland, and of course at home. The seven-man band plays in the following line-up: guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, scythe, harmonica, piano accordion, violin, clarinet, recorder, bagpipe, saxophone, double bass, percussion and voice.
