"... the most beautiful music on the planet". Overdone? Undoubtedly, anyone who is introduced to the music of Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares will prick up their ears in amazement for a moment - or longer. Over the centuries, Bulgaria has developed its own polyphony, unlike the Western one; a polyphony in which a preference for contradictory harmonies is noticeable. For the a-capella choir, which has
… existed since 1952, young singing talents are emphatically drawn from the Bulgarian countryside, because the tradition there is still unspoiled and purely handed down. In addition to exciting arrangements of traditional songs, the choir sings works specially composed for them by Bulgarian composers. Female voices sing intricate harmonies in six parts in complex rhythms with a loud, vibrato-free voice. The melodies are passionately bent and provided with quick embellishments such as vibrations. The razor-sharp exotic music cuts your heart like an incantation. Thanks to the efforts of the ethnomusicologist Marcel Cellier, this music has become known and loved all over the world. Volume 4 of hopefully a long series has now been released on his own label. (SvdP) _more
