Syrian singer Omar Souleyman was the hit of the 2011 festival season. After being discovered by the label , this original wedding performer broke down the festival tents from Glastonbury to Lowlands with his enthusiastic vocals and dapper music played on cheap electronic keyboards. Nine years later, the new is finished, but on Shlon Souleyman shows that his Syrian electronic disco has not lost any
… of its excitement. His regular keyboardist Hasan Alo makes the keyboards dance and twirl again, supplemented by the elastic electric saz playing of Saygin Ozatmaca. The ballad Mawwal is beautiful, in which Souleyman lowers his aged voice even more and his Syrian cries of the heart do their job, even without translation. Souleyman, now living in Turkey, is an authentic artist and a stayer, that may be clear by now. (MR)more
