Mabulu was actually a project, a musical collective with Mozambican musicians of different generations and different musical tastes. A tour of Europe was linked to the release of the album Karimbo. The CD and the group were received enthusiastically and the trip broadened the musical horizon to such an extent that a follow-up was inevitable. The second album, Soul Marrabenta, shows this maturing
… process. The infectious mix of traditional marrabenta with hip-hop has now been expanded with influences from South African kwela and Zimbabwean chimurenga dance music. The CD contains a number of acoustic songs and the saxophone is integrated in the compositions. The songs are entertaining and educational; they are about poverty and the fear of AIDS, but also about love, hope and joy in life. The album is dedicated to the thousands of people who died or lost all their belongings in the catastrophic floods in Mozambique. (SvdP) _more
