Tuva is an Asian country located between Mongolia and Siberia. It is a land where more animals live than people: many herds of sheep and horses graze on the vast plains. The Tuvan group Huun-Huur-Tu has introduced the Western world to the superworldly sounds of overtone singing, sung with a certain technique of throat singing. In this region, singers are masters of beautiful virtuoso tunes of
… flute-like overtones from a long sustained hum of low guttural sound. Huun-Huur-Tu has already made many albums, but Live In Munich is the group's first DVD. It is very interesting to see how the humble and gentle men dress, what traditional instruments they use and how they play and sing. The DVD also includes extras, such as a backstage report and a Russian documentary in which they collaborate with the Bulgarian female singing group Angelite. (SvdP)more
