Guo Yue is a Chinese living in England with two great passions: cooking and music. He works in both fields: he is a master chef in authentic Chinese cuisine as well as a lyrical and virtuoso bamboo flute player and composer of the film scores for Bertolucci's Last Emperor and The Killing Fields. Both soundtracks were awarded an Oscar. He has also played with Peter Gabriel, Sinead O'Connor and Hothouse
… Flowers, among others. Guo Yue likes to interpret Chinese traditional music in a way accessible to Westerners, for example by combining Chinese instruments with background music from a string orchestra. His music is not for purists, but for lovers of serene, timeless cinematic music. This is how his album Music, Food And Love sounds, in which Guo Yue takes a nostalgic musical journey through his life in China; from his youth at the time of the Cultural Revolution to his departure for London. In the CD booklet, each track contains concrete memories about his childhood in the narrow alleys of the hutongs in Beijing, about the games he played and about his dear mother, a fascinating personality. In addition to this CD, Guo Yue wrote an interesting biography with the same title. (SvdP) In addition to this CD, Guo Yue wrote an interesting biography with the same title.
