In 1974, the Tibetan monks of Gyuto Monastery first demonstrated their unique singing style to astonished Western audience. With the growing interest in Buddhism, the overtone singing of the monks has become more and more famous. … not conceived for relaxation, but to get into a meditative state. On this CD four Tibetan monks work together with Deva Premal, a German singer who specialized in chanting mantras. The addition of cello, flutes and keys scrapes the rough edges of the overtone vocals, but the nine mantras nevertheless retain a hypnotic effect on the listener. (PdK)more
