Winston Rodney was born in 1948 in Saint Ann's Parish, an area in the north of Jamaica where activist Marcus Garvey and reggae legend Bob Marley come from. The latter brought Rodney, now sang under the name Burning Spear in contact with producer Coxsone Dodd and his Studio One label. His hand was Burning Spear classic roots reggae album Marcus Garvey (1975). In his lyrics Burning Spear refers to
