Wim Sonneveld was one of the most important figures of the theater and light music in the decades after World War II. He was born in Utrecht on June 28, 1917. He made his theater debut in Louis David in 1936, seven years later, he founded his own company in cabaret, where people like Hetty Blok, Conny Stuart and Joop Doderer part of. In the following years he achieved success on radio, television,… film and theater. He was briefly employed in England, where he deems television shows for the BBC wrote, and Hollywood, where he worked on several films.
Groundbreaking was the bold manner in which he presented in the sixties the Grand Gala du Disque, the television program in which the most important Dutch music award, the Edison was awarded. One of its characters he introduced there was Frater Venantius, which he scored a big hit in 1967. In the seventies he was increasingly concentrate on singing listening songs whose written by his partner Friso Wiegersma Village would be the best known.
