Martijn van Iterson graduated in 1993 with honors from the Conservatory as a student of Wim Overgaauw, whose guitar he still plays. In 2004 Van Iterson won the Bird Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2004 and received the prize awarded by Pat Metheny.
