Lassus was the late Renaissance, the centipede; additionally an incredibly productive. He wrote masses, motets, lamentations, hymns, madrigals, chansons, German songs and more. Moreover, it was clear that the young Lassus was exceptionally talented. Already at the age of twelve he was sent from southwest Belgium to Italy, to that career. … Munich. There he remained for almost forty years, until his death. His enormous talent and hard work made him quickly famous, both in Germany and abroad - he got nicknames like "le Divin Orlande. His social status grew rapidly, both kings and emperors and the pope, who promoted him to Knight. In his music Lassus was very versatile, both in genre and style. From the early, playful madrigals to the impressive Lagrime di San Pietro "(written just before his death) and religious works: anywhere he felt like a fish in water.
