Mozart's four Horn Concertos form grateful repertoire. Quite a few performances of these LP or CD concerts have appeared. Think of the legendary albums with
Dennis Brain,
Barry Tuckwell and
David Pyatt. Not to mention
Pip Eastop, who ventured to play them on an authentic natural horn. Plenty of choices and reputations, then. Hence, for a long time, Sibylle Mahni didn't dare to voice her expertise.
And that despite her wealth of experience, where she could count Christian Tetzlaff, Lars Vogt and Isabelle van Keulen among her partners. The Mozart project was close to her heart. And she realized for personal reasons that it had to come one day. Fortunately, the Brandenburg Symphoniker had ears for the project, with this CD as a result. Mozart originally composed the concertos for the horn player of the Salzburger Hofkapelle, Joseph Ignaz Leutgeb.
