Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman is fast becoming a familiar face. She sang the Olympic Hymn at the opening of the Winter Games in 2010. Brueggergosman (a contraction of her own name Gosman and that of her husband Markus Bruegger) is renowned for her expressive personality. She could fully use her acting talent on her debut album Surprise, which received rave reviews. Her second album Night
… And Dreams was voted Editor's Choice in the Gramophone, but is of a completely different character. It contains a collection of cradle songs, serenades and other moody songs that focus on night, sleep and dreams. From Mozart to Montsalvatge, in no less than five languages: German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and English. It is remarkable that this varied selection nevertheless forms a unity. Brueggergosman comes into its own best in the more modern repertoire. Her voice is actually too loud for many romantic songs, which call for a more reflective personality. Yet Night And Dreams has become an atmospheric album where listeners can enjoy many well-known and unknown gems. (CP)more
