Apart from the single Westenwind from 1995, the singing career of the 36-year-old Flemish Dana Winner has strangely passed the Netherlands so far. She has been in the business for over twelve years and has released a large number of albums, also in German-speaking countries and South Africa. In these parts, just like in her home country of Belgium, she was distinguished with all kinds of awards,
… achieved platinum sales figures and made extensive tours. Due to her popularity, Dana can successfully work for charities such as Doctors Without Borders and Unicef, which has made her the darling of the Flemish public and the not too serious press, which is always looking for a nice personal story. Unforgettable is an album with English covers of the caliber soft pop and evergreens. The album cannot be called exciting, because those who focus on tired classics like Morning Has Broken, Vincent and You Needed Me are very much on the safe side. A little more spice in her singing style and a fresher choice of materials would certainly not hurt the otherwise sympathetic-looking Flemish. (BP)more
