Lura is a Portuguese singer of Cape Verdean descent. The Lisbon-born artist started out as a dancer and backing singer, but when her sensual alto voice was discovered, she was put forward as lead singer. Lura honors her heritage by integrating Cape Verdean traditional rhythms and instruments into her music and singing in Creole. On the album Eclipse you can hear tabanka, funaná, coladeira and morna
… and instruments such as the ferro and the accordion used in traditional Cape Verde music. The latter instrument is played by guest musician Régis Gizavo from Madagascar. Eclipse alternates between calm and uptempo songs. Especially with the swinging songs you can hear from Lura's timing that she has a great sense of rhythm. Besides songs by B. Leza, Toy Vieira, Orlando Pantera and Mário Lúcio also wrote Lura their own song, the swinging Maria. Eclipse is one of those albums that makes you long for balmy summers and sunny places when listening to it. (SvdP)more
