'This album tells the story of my Tunisia, the story of dark years, as I experienced them: as a student, rebel and activist'. Was signed Emel Mathouthli, who impressively captures the chaotic history of her native country in music with her debut album. Mathlouthi was born in Tunis in 1982 but fled the dictatorship at the age of 24. During the recent revolution she returned to Tunisia to perform a
… series of concerts. Her music is full of emotions: alternately angry, resigned, nostalgic and sad. She shares vocal acrobatics with famous Arabic predecessors (such as Fairuz) but colors her music with a wide variety of influences, which betray her young age. The ominous trip-hop beats give the album urgency and a dark color that contrasts beautifully with Mathlouthi's angelic voice. Perhaps not an easy one, but with every listen you discover new sides to Kelmti Horra. A beautiful album by a singer with whom every note is serious. (PdK)more
