Dizu Plaatjies is not only a musician but also a historian. His goal is to pass on the traditional music of South Africa to the next generation. To this end, he dresses up with a huge headdress during the exciting live shows. For this album, Ubuntu, Plaatjies was also inspired by music from outside South Africa. Ubuntu is named after the South African philosophy that values equality and
… humanity. The album is an exchange between Western and African music. The structure of the songs is African, while instruments such as trumpet, clarinet and electric guitar were used for the arrangements. The long songs are perfect for the dance floor. Especially Inkomo, with fantastic guitar work by Allou April, is a top song. Also beautiful is the song of praise for Nelson Mandela, the man who also translated the Ubuntu philosophy into politics.
