Samy Ben Redjeb, 's label boss , has made it his day job to re-release forgotten African music from the 1970s and sell it to new audiences. To this end, he travels criss-cross through Africa in search of dusty warehouses full of yellowed vinyl singles. Ben Redjeb prefers everything funky and danceable. This was evident from the excellent compilation albums he released with music from , , and
… , among others.. It is now Cape Verde's turn, the small archipelago off the coast of West Africa. The typical, lazy swing of much Cape Verde dance music can also be heard on this CD. Special is the presence of old-fashioned grunting synthesizers. How those instruments once washed up on the islands is such a special story that it is actually too much fun to reveal it here.
