Ondatropica is a collaboration between the Colombian multi-instrumentalist Mario Galeano and the English producer Will “ ” Holland who has moved to Cali . The latter was with his already busy mixing traditional Colombian music with styles such as reggae and funk, but with Ondatropica the pair are extending this blend even further. … than 42 musicians, they combined traditional cumbia with boogalo, ska, hip-hop, dub and funk. For the successor, they are looking closer to home and they grow the cumbia with pure South American building materials such as salsa, Brasil, merenge, afrobeat (also very popular in Colombia) and reggae. The results are impressive. The usually lazily rippling cumbia is enhanced with a sparkling fill that brightens up the pace.
