Getatchew Mekuria is an Ethiopian jazz saxophonist in his seventies. The Ex comes from Wormer, Noord-Holland and has been playing their headstrong cross rock for over 25 years. They are not two artists that you expect on one CD together. Still, the combination works. The raw guitars of The Ex fit wonderfully with the screeching sax parts of Mekuria. … veteran on a tour of the African country. Mekuria selected the ten songs on this CD. There are a number of war songs (Mekuria played in the Ethiopian army orchestra for a while), traditionals and songs by Tlahoun Gessesse and the Wallias Band, which have previously been heard on the Ethiopiques series of the Buda label.
