From time to time it seems as if Fred Hersch's piano and Bill Frisell's guitar together form one instrument or that the sound of both instruments originates from one brain, that's how good the two musicians feel together when playing the eleven jazz classics on Songs We Know. Keeping it simple and keeping it pure, honest was the motto of both musicians when making this album. In their play they were
… open to each other's characteristics and moved in each other's direction. And all this makes this CD so fascinating to listen to. The melodies and rhythms also caress the ear. On Songs We Know you can hear refined and intelligent jazz from two musicians who actually play together. Standards on this CD include: It Might As Well Be Spring, Softly As In A Morning Sunrise, My One And Only Love, Wave, My Little Suede Shoes and I Got Rhythm. (JW)more
