After writing nine songs, Doc Powell went into the studio with 21 of his musical friends. Doc himself played keyboards on all songs and his friends were allowed to present on one or two songs. We are talking about musicians like Marcus Miller (bass guitar) and Joe Sample (piano). The train starts with the opening number 'Locomotive' and ends 'Smooth' after 51 minutes. In the meantime we have been
… able to listen to nine instrumental songs and two beautifully sung ballads 'I hear Angels' (with vocals by Tim Owens) and 'No Me Without You' (with vocals by Gary Taylor). The line-up is in almost all songs: keyboards (read drums, percussion), saxophone, bass guitar supplemented on five tracks with piano. Easy listening, soul, crossover, smooth, call it what you want, above all you can listen to well-produced atmospheric jazzy music. (RM) _more
