Guitarist Philip Catherine has been an icon in European jazz for decades. Not least because of his collaboration with greats such as Chet Baker, Charles Mingus, Larry Coryell, Tom Harrell and Stéphane Grappelli. On the CD Blue Prince he plays eleven lyrical songs, nine of which are his own. That is why the album has a pleasant relaxed atmosphere, with Bert Joris in particular excelling on trumpet.
Hein van de Geyn on bass and Hans van Oosterhout on drums complete a perfect quartet. (RM) _more
