Amsterdam based New Cool Collective has decided after two albums to think big and act big. The regular nine-piece line-up, led by saxophonist Benjamin Herman, has expanded to a big band of more than twenty members for this aptly titled album Big. To describe the music of the New Cool Collective you cannot escape large contaminated lists. Acid-latin-jazzy-bata-mambo-trip-bop-lounge-funk-jungle-dance
… might be a correct description. It should be clear that Big is a colorful, catchy CD that contains all the mentioned styles. Swinging instrumental solos are interspersed with DJ beats, while Trijntje Oosterhuis also comes along. All this with one goal in mind: filling the dance floor. (RK)more
