Tenor saxophonist Ted Nash is a man of many faces. On one occasion he acts as the star soloist in the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (LCJO) and the other time he is the home player in the Jazz Composers Collective (JCC). Sometimes he can be heard as a robust tenor saxophonist, while at other times he plays the somewhat less solid clarinet. On Still Evolved, this busy owner plays tenor saxophone with
… a band consisting of two colleagues from the LCJO, namely the formidable trumpet players Wynton Marsalis and Marcus Printup, while the JCC is well represented with the talents Frank Kimbrough on piano, Ben Allison on bass, and Matt. Wilson on drums. A worthy company and you can hear that too. Ted Nash wrote all eight songs for the album himself and while Still Evolved is not as progressive as his previous albums, there is more than enough left to enjoy in silence. (RM)more
