In 2002 percussionist Poncho Sanchez was crowned The New King Of Latin Jazz by the American magazine Jazz Times. This happened while he was looking for new impulses in his music. He found this in his roots, when he listened to a lot of rhythm & blues. He decided to mix this inspiration from the heyday of Stax and Motown with his Latin jazz sound. To this end, he invited a number of soul celebrities
… such as Ray Charles, Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley from the JB Horns, Billy Preston and Sam Moore (from Sam & Dave) to participate in Out Of Sight. The result can be compared to the New York boogaloo sound, which came from the Puerto Rican part of this metropolis in the sixties. Out Of Sight moves between the percussion-filled funk of JB ' s Strut to the dazzling Latin jazz of Conmigo and all the possible combinations in between. (AD)more
