Top guitarist Jan Akkerman is still associated by many with rock bands such as The Hunters and Focus, with which he caused a furore in the sixties and seventies. He himself is not the man to dwell on his illustrious past for too long and is open to new ideas. During a performance in Breda, he came into contact with the dance formation Soulvation, where he was impressed by the 'awesome, incredible
… dance beats'. After a few joint performances, Jan went into the studio with DJ Ronald Molendijk and keyboardist Jeroen Rietbergen, under the production direction of bassist Michel van Schie. Jan Akkerman lets his guitar splash over the mellow house beats, as he always does, while he is careful not to get bogged down in endless haggling. Most songs are based on a melodic motif, that is gradually being expanded. In other tracks a rhythmic funk approach is chosen. The approach that on paper could raise questions for the guitar purist, appears to work well in practice. (MS)more
