This fantastic DVD features TV recordings of the second Miles Davis Quintet, recorded on October 11, 1964 at the Teatro Dell'Arte in Milan. Tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter had just joined the band and immediately went on a European tour, with other band members Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. We already know the CD Miles in Berlin recorded live a few days earlier. However, it is great
… to now also see (black and white) images from that period, with a surprisingly good sound. The concert consisted of the typical Davis program at the time: three standards (Autumn Leaves, My Funny Valentine and All of You), their own compositions (All Blues) and the somewhat newer Joshua. The band members found each other completely in adventuring based on these pieces. In addition, they regularly flirted with rock. In All Blues, for example, we see Tony Williams immediately putting down a funky rhythm after a (unfortunately inaudible) snarl from Miles. This DVD is a great addition to any Miles Davis collection.
