On March 13, 1995, the Brecker Brothers performed at U-Port Hall in Tokyo and recorded it on this DVD. Each song is followed by a short interview in which the brothers talk about their history and the pieces being performed. It quickly becomes clear that saxophonist Michael is the talkative of the two. They explain why funk is the best foundation for their music, and they show it. Accompanied by a
… solid band with Rodney Holmes (drums), James Genus (bass), Dean Parks (guitar) and George Whittey (keys) they play the paint of the walls. Japanese electronics group Akai's executives and shareholders will greet Live In Tokyo at their annual shareholders' meeting. Michael Brecker gives a demonstration of the AKAI EWI (Electronic Winddriven Instrument), a kind of synthesizer that can be blown, during Song For Barry, a tribute that lasts over half an hour to Barry Rodgers, who died in 1991, former trombonist in the brothers' band. He takes care of the first ten minutes and demonstrates that he can make this device sound like a whole band. (AD)more
