They are still there, the artists who learn to sing in the church choir. Young countryman Paul Cauthen says he really learned to sing in the choir of the Church of Christ. 'We didn't have microphones there, so I learned to sing really loud,' he says about that time. Cauthen indeed proves that he can sometimes make a lot of calls, but fortunately the Texan has several registers: soulful singing,
… crooning and also the typical country snik. Cauthen wanted to make an album that is the opposite of the prefabricated country pop that is mainly dominant on American radio stations. The singer recorded his album, among others, in the famous FAME Studio in Alabama and in 's home studio. The result is a tasteful roots album by a man who sings about his doubts but knows exactly what he wants. Cauthen touches on different genres (country, blues, gospel, soul), but gives them a self-assured sound of their own. All in all a very promising debut. (PdK)more
