After four years, a new album by Janet Jackson is finally released. We already got a taste of it with the hit single Doesn't Really Matter. Unfortunately All For You disappoints: too much cheap sex and too few spoken songs. The title track All For You is based on the bass line Le Freak by Chic: not bad. Come And Get Up also sounds very danceable and funky. Then it collapses. Love Scene consists of
… a slurry of empty panting and moaning, which is probably meant to challenge the listener, but only irritates me because of the lyrics (I wanna kiss you, suck you, taste you, ride you). After that, it goes even further downhill with Just A Try, which unfortunately sounds like Michael Jackson from his eighties rock era. The song Son Of A Gun is sung with Carly Simon, also such a relic from 30 years ago, which can sing well, but of which you wonder why she participates on a Janet Jackson record. In short, a little uplifting album that gives me the feeling of a missed opportunity. (BP)more
