The life of superstar rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg (real name: Calvin Broadus) is rather turbulent, which of course always guarantees high sales figures. The American was discovered by Dr. Dre, who featured him on his debut album The Chronic. Refreshing with the swinging P-funk bass lines, the album scored well and Snoops' own debut, Doggystyle, went on to go quadruple platinum. During the same period,
… the rapper was charged with complicity in murder, which led to much of 1995 being lost in a lawsuit. He cleverly exploited his violent and sexist reputation with a short film based on the single Murder Was The Case. The accompanying soundtrack debuted in America at number 1. In 1996 Snoop was acquitted and he also broke away from Dr. Dre, although on his album The Doggfather he put the same well-known funky bass lines under his raps. His album The Last Meal was released in 2000. This Greatest Hits contains all the major hit singles (What's My Name, Gin & Juice, Tha Dogfather, Doggy Dogg World) and gives a good overview of the man's remarkable career. (BP)more
