Most people will know Rayvon (real name: Bruce Brewster) as the man who sang the chorus on Shaggy's hit Angel (2001). However, the collaboration with Shaggy dates back to 1988, when the two met each other in a New York studio. Both were recording there separately, but the well-known reggae producer Shaun Pizzonia (better known as Sting International) thought it was a good idea to have them do
… something together. After a number of dancehall-style singles, they scored their first joint world hit in 1995 with In The Summertime, from Shaggy's album Boombastic. After that, Rayvon tried it alone, but his solo debut Hear My Cry (1997) did little, despite guest appearances from Maxi Priest and (of course) Shaggy. After Angel's huge success, Rayvon makes a second attempt with My Bad. And now Shaggy helps his friend by singing along in the pleasant 2-Way. Two other highlights are In The Wintertime (!) And the uptempo Do You Wanna Ride. For the rest, however, it is a flat and monotonous album, in which styles such as reggae, hip-hop, dancehall and R&B are mixed in a moderate way. Kind of like Shaggy, but three classes less. (MvP)more
