American singer / songwriter Jackson Browne was born in Heidelberg, Germany, but grew up in Los Angeles. After starting out as a songwriter for others (including Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, The Byrds and Nico), he made his debut as a performing artist in 1972. His best works include For Everyman (1973), Late For The Sky (1974) and the pseudo live album Running On Empty (1977). His music can be
… described as melodic 'westcoast pop' with influences from folk and country. Because of his warm voice and his personal lyrics, he is often mentioned in the same breath as fellow singer / songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and James Taylor. The latter made a nice comeback in 2002 with the album October Road and as if coincidence does not exist, Jackson Browne released The Naked Ride Home barely two months later. It has turned out to be a surprisingly strong album with a number of beautiful, moving listening songs and a political statement here and there. Browne's voice sounds as pleasant as ever and the song material is also of a familiar, high quality. Notable guest appearances include Keb 'Mo' (slide guitar) and Venice member Kip Lennon (backing vocals). The Naked Ride Home features 'typical seventies music' and this expression can be seen as a compliment this time.
