After two acoustic solo albums, on which he showcased his talent as a performer, singer / songwriter Jackson Browne is finally releasing a studio album with new material, his first in six years. Assisted by his regular band members, including two soulful backing singers, Browne delivers a friendly sounding album, albeit with less friendly lyrics. Like in The Drums Of War, in which Browne wonders
… why President Bush's impeachment is not on the agenda. Whoever leafs through the textbook can only conclude that Browne has lost little of his political involvement. Nevertheless, this time it takes him effort to convert his message into urgent songs. Too much of Time The Conqueror ripples on, and that doesn't do justice to the content of its lyrics. (MS)more
