The Canadian producer duo Delerium (Rhys Fulber and Bill Leeb) owes much of its fame to the remixes of their songs made by the Dutch trance DJ Tiësto, among others. In the remix versions trance beats were added to ambient-like songs such as Silence and Innocente, making them big dance hits. Delerium's own material is less suitable for the dance floor on Chimera, just like on the previous albums
… Karma (1997) and Poem (2000). The majority of the songs are quiet vocal pop with a dance production and most reminiscent of Enigma, for example, which also makes a mixture of new age / ambient, dance and world music. Since Fulber and Leeb are only the gentlemen behind the buttons, the main role on Chimera is again reserved for the various (female) guest vocalists. They will include Zoë Johnston, Jaël, Rachel Fuller and Leigh Nash (Sixpence None The Richer). Thanks to their input, Chimera is more than an album with merely quietly rippling background music.
