With the single Been Caught Stealing (1990), Jane's Addiction delivered one of the first major crossover hits, after which the mix between rock and funk could finally break through to the general public at the beginning of the nineties. Foreman Perry Farrell soon turned out to be too eccentric for the acquired star status. Not soon after the album Ritual De Lo Habitual (1990) he disbanded the group,
… after which he made two nice albums with Porno For Pyros, which, however, did not match the great success of his previous band. Guitarist Dave Navarro briefly joined competitor The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Thirteen years after Ritual, a new album from Jane's Addiction is released quite unexpectedly, on which the group (only bassist Eric Avey has been replaced) continues, as if the band never broke up. That means the familiar energetic mix of (prog) rock and funk, over which Farrell brings his overwrought and sometimes hysterical vocals. A convincing comeback from one of the prominent groups of the 'nineties'. (MS)more
