American singer / songwriter Pete Yorn was born in New Jersey, but moved to Los Angeles after high school. Here he performed his own material in small clubs and wrote music for films (including Me, Myself and Irene) and TV series. He played in the club circuit for four years until he was offered a contract with Columbia Records in 2000. Yorn's debut album Musicforthemorningafter was finally released
… in March 2001. His debut, on which he played most of the instruments himself, was critically acclaimed and eventually went gold in the United States. Yorn's second album Day I Forgot (2003), like his debut, is again full of (often heavy) singer / songwriter rock, in which both British (the Smiths, The Cure) but especially American influences such as REM and Pearl Jam can be heard. Yorn sometimes even sounds a bit like Eddie Verder (Pearl Jam), and Peter Buck from REM also plays mandolin on the song Man In Uniform. With Day I Forgot is, Pete Yorn has made a nice 'listen-in' album with which he certainly deserves a chance outside of the US. (IV)more
