The Amsterdam band Voicst calls its own style ADHD rock. The EP Eat The Evidence already provided the necessary gigs in the country, but the hype only really started after the release of this official debut album 11-11. Voicst went all the way to New York to record this album, because producer Eli Janney (the bassist of Girls Against Boys) was waiting to accompany the trio. With this American behind
… the controls, the result was un-Dutch good. Voicst sounds like a hard version of The Shins, an angular version of The Strokes or a more melodic version of The Thermals. Singer Tjeerd plays flaming guitar and sings witty lyrics, which may not be that catchy yet, but they fit very well with the music. The bass playing and the energetic drum parts are also welcome and anyone who has seen the band on stage knows that they can keep this going live. The Netherlands has a special bond again. (JdD)more
