The American sisters Bianca and Sierra Cassady together form the duo CocoRosie, whose debut album La Maison De Mon RĂªve was released in 2004. Their music seems to be a mix of old folk, blues and jazz, lo-fi and antiques, but made with modern electronics. The sisters sing over it with voices that sometimes evoke comparisons with Billie Holiday. The music they make (in Bianca's Paris apartment) is
… certainly freaky and eccentric, but usually also impressive and beautiful. The second album Noah's Ark puts the listener to the test, because CocoRosie has certainly not become more accessible. The atmosphere is often ominous, despite the childish and sweet voices that are used to sing, but sometimes just as sweet. Cats meowing, phones ringing, water bubbling, neighing horses and other less definable environmental sounds are accompanied by music boxes, sampled vocals, a piano and gently shuffling beats. With the help of Antony (from The Johnsons), Devendra Banhart and the French rapper Spleen, Noah's Ark is a CD that seems to come from a world of its own: that of CocoRosie. (IV)more
