Alice Russell has impressed the Dutch stages. In 2005 she was the singer of the Quantic Soul Orchestra the bouncer of the Supernatural Festival and that same year she performed with her own band at Maison Royal. If you listen to My Favorite Letters without looking at the CD booklet, you will suspect that you are dealing with a black singer of the caliber Chaka Khan or Aretha Franklin. Nothing could
… be further from the truth, because Alice Russell is a small English lady who nevertheless has a hell of a voice. This could already be heard on her debut Under The Munka Moon, which contains a collection of songs she has made with producers such as Bah Samba, Kushti, Quantic, Atjazz and Plaid. My Favorite Letters was entirely produced by TM Juke and is therefore a more balanced CD than its predecessor. All aspects of Russell's talent are discussed, she absolutely cannot be pushed into a box by committing herself to a style. Besides funk and jazz, there are also plenty of trips to pop and afrobeat.
