Until recently, The Quantic Soul Orchestra was known as a band that held great store by funk and especially 'weird groove'. In 2006 they acted as backing band for the American soul diva Spanky Wilson. Founder, guitarist and record collector Will Holland had probably heard enough funk in recent years, so he decided to move to the part of his collection where pachanga, cumbia and afrobeat are orderly
… sorted. Most of his orchestra members were given time off and Holland left for Colombia, Puerto Rico and Panama to join local musicians in tropical atmospheres. Despite the diversity of tropical styles, Tropidelico sounds remarkably authentic, even at times when Holland reverts to the old sound of The Quantic Orchestra, such as in Marrakech, that mixes Ethiopian jazz with funk. Tropidelico sounds like a very successful summer vacation. (AD)more
