As producer of Madonna's comeback CD Ray Of Light (1998), ambient house pioneer William Orbit became world famous. His career received a big push and he became a much sought after producer and remixer, for All Saints, Pink and Blur, among others. Hello Waveforms is Orbit's first album since Pieces Of A Modern Style (2000). On that CD he threw well-known classical works through the synthesizer and
… thus made an ideal chill out album. It soon becomes clear that Orbit's style has changed little on Hello Waveforms. His signature sound that so dominated Ray Of Light is now everywhere. Soft guitars, lots of echoes and effects, slowly built up synthesizer carpets and bubbling underwater sounds, it's all there. That is both a disadvantage and an advantage. The songs on Hello Waveforms are beautiful and enjoyable, but it also all sounds very familiar. Those who do not have problems with this will undoubtedly enjoy Hello Waveforms, preferably lying in bed, on the couch or in the bath. (IV)more
