Flemish Tom van Laere alias Admiral Freebee enters high in the Belgian charts with every album, but despite impressive performances, was not able to break through in the Netherlands. That does not prevent the singer named after a character from Jack Kerouac's On The Road from recording his records abroad. Freebee's third album, Wild Dreams Of New Beginners, was also recorded in New York, where
… producer Malcolm Burns (Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Daniel Lanois) and a group of local musicians assisted him. The so often praised artistry of Flemish alternative rock is completely absent from the Admiraal. His artisanal rock songs are based on the long American tradition of rocking singer / songwriters, from Neil Young and Bob Dylan to Gram Parsons and everything in between. Recently he has something in common with them. Van Laere has also recorded a duet with Coming Of The Knight with America's most popular duet partner: Emmylou Harris. (MS)more
