Death Cult Armaggedon, Dimmu Borgir's last album with new material, is already four years old. Sorte Diaboli, the last newborn, will keep the tempers within extreme metal busy again. The releases of this Norwegian company are never undisputed. In Sorte Diaboli is a concept album about a medieval priest who slowly but surely falls from his Christian faith. In Sorte Diaboli, however, doesn't sound
… like a concept album. There are no spoken parts or recurring themes. Apart from the concept, which can also be found in the artwork, In Sorte Diaboli ties in with the previous work of the band. Hellhammer (ex-Mayhem) was called in for the drums this time and his blast beats have always been impressive. Dimmu Borgir does not seem to be bothered by the doubts of faith that plague the priest. Unadulterated symphonic black metal is still their motto. (PdK)more
