Charles Thompson (aka Frank Black and 'the lead singer of the Pixies') is back with a new album. Bluefinger is the first solo album under his Pixies pseudonym Black Francis, but this does not lead to a stylistic change of style. It is striking that the singer was inspired by Herman Brood for Bluefinger. Both in his Pixies time as a solo artist, Black Francis has always been a welcome guest in the
… Netherlands, but he only discovered Herman Brood's music a few years ago, at home in America via a YouTube video. The good news about Bluefinger is that Black Francis wrote eleven songs that even die-hard Pixies fans can find tasty enough. Raw, exciting rock with maniacal vocals is one of Francis' specialties and on Bluefinger you can find some fine examples of this. The calmer songs are also well composed. Bonus points from the Dutch jury are for the dirty Brood cover You Can't Break A Heart And Have It. (PdK)more
