Stefan Hantel grew up in Frankfurt am Main and entered the dance scene there. Initially he played downtempo and techno under his pseudonym DJ Shantel. Through the record case of his Romanian grandmother he came into contact with Eastern European gypsy music. During his Bucovina parties, Shantel played music from Balkan such as , and , which he sometimes provided with a danceable remix. The
… parties were a great success and the 'Balkan beat' was born. Unlike the two parts of Bucovina, Disko is Partizani! no mix-cd, because Shantel wrote and produced this cd all by herself. However, there is assistance from a number of well-known names such as the trumpet and . Besides the usual influences from South East Europe, Shantel also gets musical mustard from Turkey, klezmer and even reggae. This results in a particularly infectious potpourri. (PdK)more
