Every person has the right to human treatment and the opportunity to grow up in a peaceful environment. Since that right is not self-evident for everyone, we will all have to fight for it. Michael Franti and his band Spearhead, once again armed with Sly & Robbie productions, are already going to battle. Their new feat, All Rebel Rockers, is already the group's fifth album. The CD has thirteen
… tracks and the reggae influences are again fully present, but fortunately there is enough variation in music style. In the song Hey World (Don't Give Up Version), in which Franti is only accompanied by a guitar, is a pleasant example of such an outing. The album records misery, despair and cold and converts them into positivity, combativeness and warmth. The strength, but also the (possible) weakness, All Rebel Rockers has the sky-high 'peace on earth' quality, making it almost a sum of clichés. However, that does not alter the fact that the album has an inspiring effect. The DVD contains video clips from Hey World, A Little Bit Of Riddim and All I Want Is You. The viewer can also see how this album came about. (GL)more
