Marco Borsato writes in the booklet accompanying this CD that he has the need to continue to innovate artistically. The music for Wit Licht is inspired by the eponymous feature film that will be released in the autumn of 2008. The feature film, with Borsato himself in the lead, is about child soldiers and was largely shot in Africa. Borsato wrote the script with his regular lyricist John Ewbank and
… the film was the inspiration for the songs on this album. The well-known Borsato themes (hope and love) are abundant and fatherhood in particular seems to be a source of happiness and inspiration for Ewbank and Borsato. The singer indulges in quite a few ballads but fortunately also in a few uptempo songs. In For One Laugh, subtle African influences seep through. Borsato brooded on White Light for no less than four years, but it was worth the wait. Borsato has also managed to achieve the standard he set on his previous albums with this new record. (PdK)more
